In a game featuring an outpouring of emotion for six senior players and one senior coach, the 2011-12 edition of the Maumee Valley Hawks re-wrote the school recordbooks for a single season, defeating a hard-fighting Cardinal Stritch team 44-36 at the Varsity Gym. The win lifted the Hawks to an all-time school best record 19-1, and capped a 13-1 TAAC champion record for the season.
It nearly was a 18-2 season however, as the Cardinals were up at the half 19-18 on the strength of a tough inside defense and ball-control offense. Maumee Valley was able to find their offensive stride and apply pressure during a dominating 17-2 third quarter. But the visitors would not quit and pulled the lead back down under ten by game's end.
CS Coach Dave Rieker was justifibly proud of his team on this night. He noted post-game that his team fought hard until the very end, achieving a big goal of his throughout the entire season.
But the night belonged to Coach Jim Robinson's team. Coach, leading his team in his last-ever regular season game was the last one up the ladder for the ceremonial net cutting. No one looked happier in the Varsity gym at that moment, and no one deserved to enjoy such a moment more than Coach Robinson.
Scoring for the Hawks on the evening - Dave Brown, in his first top-scorer role of his MV career had 12 points, Julius Turner and Rick Deichert had 11, Jared Sturt 7 and Jonathan Krueger 3. Seniors Dixon Stoddard and Nick Frasco also saw action on this Senior night.
