MV 66 (at) EC 44 - 1.7.12 - Quick Summary

Maumee Valley knocked off one of the co-leaders in the TAAC this evening, rolling over the Emmanuel Christian Warriors 66-44 at the Roy Parmelee Gymnasium.  The game had the added bonus of making birthday boy Roger Spurgeon one happy quadragenarian.  The Warriors tried every defense in their book tonight against the Hawks:

  • the standard 2-3 zone
  • box and one against Rick
  • a half court trapping defense
  • straight man
  • a full court press
  • and a partridge in a pear tree

...none of them worked particularly well.

Julius Turner would have one of his best nights ever in the storied RPG, scoring 24.  This total included a stellar 10-11 from the line.  Jared Sturt and Rick Deichert also thrived against the defenseapalooza tonight, contributing 18 and 17 points respectively. Also scoring for the Hawks were Dave Brown with 4, Jon Krueger with 2 and Rashaan Preston with 1.

Speaking of defense, the Stopper of the Game award had to go to Jon Krueger, who held TAAC leading scorer Tyrese Edwards to eight points on the evening, thirteen points below his 20.9 ppg average.   Congratulations to Jon on this feat.

The JVs also won big, defeating their EC counterparts 48-22.  JV scoring - Marcus Knabbs 3, Solomon Collins 10, Rashaan Preston 7, Robbie Ariss 2, Kadar Jones 3, Rashad Woodley 2, Trueth Foreman 2, Nick Towns 2, Lucas Isaza 10 and Thad Woodard 7.

Lest the JVs get too carried away, let the record show they were 6-15 from the line this evening.  (The preceeding announcement was paid for and approved by Coach Clark).
