MV 34 – Oregon Clay 32 – Two quarter scrimmage at Toledo Central Catholic - second quarter highlights

MV 34 – Oregon Clay 32 – Two quarter scrimmage at Toledo Central Catholic - Summary and first quarter highlights

Oregon Clay is a D-I school playing in the new Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC).  The Eagles struggled to a 4-16 record last year.  As their record indicates, Clay is a wrestling powerhouse.


Starting five – Dave Brown (’13), Rick Deichert (’12), Jared Sturt (’12), Jonathan Krueger (’12) and Julius Turner (’12)

The Hawks pulled out to an early lead in the game and rested their starters for much of the second quarter.  The whole team played in this preview at Toledo Central and gained valuable experience in holding off a late Clay charge at game's end.

Scoring for the Hawks - Julius Turner 9, Rick Deichert and Jon Krueger 6, Jared Sturt 4, Dave Brown 3, Thad Woodard and Rashaan 2, and Nick Towns and Marcus Knabbs 1.

MV defeats Oregon Clay 34-32 in TCC preview scrimmage

The 2011-12 Hawks enjoyed a successful debut tonight at Toledo Central Catholic's Thanksgiving preview scrimmage, defeating the Clay Eagles 34-32 in a two quarter scrimmage. 

Wearing their brand new uniforms, MV jumped out to a 22-16 first quarter lead, then held off a Clay comeback for the win. 

Scoring for the Hawks - Julius Turner with 9, including a sweet banker from the corner for three, Rick Deichert and Jon Krueger with 6 each, Jared Sturt with 4 - one basket on a breakaway dunk which was named the Channel 11 play of the night, Dave Brown with a three-ball that also made the WTOL highlights, Thad Woodard and Rashaan Preston with 2 each, and Nick Towns and Marcus Knabbs had one point apiece.

Open Scrimmage tonight v. Clay at Central Catholic

The Hawks take on the D-1 TRAC Clay Eagles during the Central Catholic preview scrimmage this evening at approximately 8pm. 

MV will play two quarters against Clay.  The action at CC starts around 6pm.  Cardinal Stritch and Toledo Christian are the other TAAC members in action tonight. 

Expect to pay about $2 to get in - well worth it.
