In one heck of a game on Friday night at Ottawa Hills, the boys' JV advanced to 4-0 with a 40 to 30 win over the Ottawa Hills Bears. The key to the game was the essence of basketball, TEAM play on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor AND playing with heart.
On Friday, the boys' JV team played with an awful lot of heart and you could not have asked for more effort, passion and hustle (once they warmed up - more about that later).
In their usual fashion, the Hawks started out slow (boys from the toss of the ball it's game time get going please, you give your parents more gray hairs otherwise) and ended the first quarter up 5-3 on the Bears. The Hawks continued to feel their way in the 2nd quarter and the Bears came to life as well, ending the second quarter with a 15 to 11 lead over the Hawks - say what?
The Hawks came alive in the 3rd quarter behind excellent play at both ends, a full court press that got them aggressive and some sharp shooting by Thad Woodard who hit 4 threes for the Hawks and ended the night with a team high 14 points. The 3rd quarter ended with the Hawks up 28-19.
The Hawks played excellent aggressive defense down the stretch and great team offense which put team members in good position to score and score they did. They played with great passion and their defense energized their offense. Carry that passion, aggressiveness, drive and TEAM spirit forward with you for the rest of the season!
The Hawks welcomed back Rashaan Preston into the line up after a shoulder injury sidelined him for the first few weeks of the season. His drive and passion while on the floor was welcome energy for the Hawks.
TEAM - Together Everyone Achieves More. Go Hawks! Great effort against the Bears.
Up next the Hawks face Emmanuel Christian in another league game, Go Hawks!
Scoring Woodard 14, Collins 12, King 4, Okeke 4, Knabbs 3, Hazimah 3
