Monday night the Boys’ JV faced the Danbury Lakers in their second meeting of the season. The Hawks’ started out slow, but were able to get some momentum going and beat the Lakers 40-30 for their second win over the Lakers for the 2010-2011 season. The Hawks’ starting line-up included two fresh faces, Robbie Ariss and Marcus Knabbs, and the Hawks’ defensive effort held the Lakers to just two points in the first quarter. Hazimah, Okeke, Knabbs and Willhight all scored for the Hawks’ in the first quarter.
The Hawks started the second quarter with a bit of a dry spell as the Lakers rattled off eight unanswered points in the quarter, but eventually the Hawks’ settled down and began executing their offense. After that wake up, the Hawks’ went on to score 11 points in the quarter, ending the quarter on a three pointer by King and with a 21-12 lead over the Lakers heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Hawks would add ten points to their score behind great hustle plays by Woodard and Hazimah, a good look inside by Okeke and a three pointer by Knabbs. The Hawks ended the third quarter leading the Lakers 31-21.
In the final quarter, Hazimah, Willhight, Okeke, and Willhight would put points on the board for the Hawks and the Hawks’ defense held the Lakers to just nine points in the fourth. The Hawks were victorious in their second matchup with the Lakers on the season ending the fourth quarter with a 40-30 win over the Lakers.
