Maumee Valley overcame a 10 point first half deficit and rallied in the second behind strong defense to defeat the D-II Toledo St. Francis Knights 49-40. With the win, the Blue and White remain undefeated in the Toledo Central Catholic League with a 5-0 record.
St. Francis is rebuilding after a difficult 5-15 record last year, but any win over a current or former City League team is significant.
Scoring for the Hawks: Jared Sturt 15, Julius Turner 11, Rick Deichert 7, Jonathan Krueger 6, Dixon Stoddard and Dave Brown 5 each. Also playing for MV were Thad Woodard, Nick Frasco and Caleb Willhight.
Woulda, shoulda, coulda department - most all the summer league highlights have been from the second half. Unfortunately, I missed an impressive drive to the basket and finishing dunk by Jared early on. Needless to say, I’ll be paying more attention in the first half.
First half highlights:
