Hey, we're back with summer league action and more

June is here, and that means…Summer League basketball of course!

After a three month hiatus, your Hawkblog returns for an abbreviated run through the Central Catholic and Premier Basketball (fka Mix center) leagues.

We will also run some features and catch up with some regular season action over the next six weeks.

The Hawks opened summer league play with a 43-31 victory over D-1 Sylvania Northview the CC gym this evening under the direction of CC league coach Carter Bayer ‘10.  It was the first time the Hawks starting five have played as a unit since the end of the regular season.

More than a few team members were out studying for finals, but eight players suited up for today’s action:  Dave Brown, Rick Deichert, Nick Frasco, Caleb Willhight, Jared Sturt, Jonathan Krueger, Dixon Stoddard, and Julius Turner.

MV jumped out to an early 18-5 lead and was up 20-10 at the half.  Northview started the second half strong and pulled to within 22-19, but the Blue and White found their bearings late and pulled away at the end for the 11 point win.

Nobody kept a scorebook, and therefore, no stats are available for this game.  But what game summary would be complete without video highlights?  These are all second half highlights:

First Jonathan Krueger hits a mid range jumper:

Next, Jared Sturt blocks not one, but two shots and Nick Frasco finishes at the offensive end with a tip-in.

Rick throws a nice entry pass to Jared for two (bonus T-Peezy audio commentary provided by Mrs. Krueger at end of clip).

Julius dishes to Jon on the break

Jared spins in to the paint for a basket

And finally, Coach Bayer looks on as Julius finds Jared underneath.

It’s good to see the guys back in action.

PS - get well soon Coach!!
