Boys' JV Beats Northwood Rangers 44-27, Advances to 8-1 for the Season

From Hawkblog Special Correspondent Portia Ash

The boys’ JV traveled to Northwood for their fifth league game of the season and beat the Rangers 44-27, advancing to 5-0 in the TAAC. The Hawks were fired up and ready to go as they faced what felt like one of their most evenly matched league games of the season. Solid team play, including good execution of their offense and great team defense, were the keys to the game for the Hawks.

Through the first half of play the teams were very even, ending the first quarter with the Hawks trailing the Rangers by 2. In the second half, a fresh rotation for the Hawks stepped up and played the quarter very strong matching the Rangers basket for basket and eventually pulling the Hawks even with the Ranger at 16 a piece to end the half.

The Hawks finished the third quarter with a 3 point lead over the Rangers, with great outside shooting from Woodard and great post play by Collins and Okeke. The Hawks really pulled away in the fourth, with good offensive sequences and great team defense. They opened up the floor and with great passing, were able to create good shot opportunities for one another.

The Hawks continue to progress, getting better and better at moving without the ball, playing help defense, taking care of the ball and improving their passing. Although they still make our hearts skip a beat with cross court passes – honestly boys, an athletic and fast opponent will get to that pass and be off to the races – just check out Julius every now and then in the Varsity games.

Northwood treated us to our first pep band of the season and it was a nice touch to the backdrop of the game. Bringing back memories for us older Hawk fans of our high school years and the fun that Friday night games brought with them for all of the students at the school being able to participate and support their team.

With this win over the Rangers, the Hawks advance to 8-1 on the season.

Up next, the Hawks travel to Bettsville High School to play the Bobcats in a nonconference game.

Scoring – Woodard 13, Collins 9, King 6, Okeke 6, Hazimah 5, Khalil 3, Safadi 2
