Boys' JV Loses to Central Catholic 65 to 12, Ouch!

From Hawkblog Special Correspondent Portia Ash.

In a very physically demanding adventure, the boys' JV experienced their first loss of the season to the Central Catholic Fighting Irish. The Fighting Irish were just bigger, stronger and faster than the Hawks, but the Hawks never gave up. Throughout the game, until the very end, on turnovers, Hawks including Danny, Ahmed, Solomon and Thad, took off in pursuit to contest any breakaway layup.

The Hawks trailed from the beginning of the game as the Fighting Irish were able to execute their offense, get inside and had great shooting outside from their guards. The Irish's defensive pressure was also unforgiving. The score at halftime was 39-8, and the Hawks would score only 4 points in the 2nd half as good shots just would not fall for the Hawks.

In the 2nd half, the Irish continued to execute their offense with good skill in the post, great defense that led to fast break opportunities and continued sharp shooting from the outside. Everything goes much faster at game speed versus in practice, doesn't it? The game ended with Central Catholic winning 65-12.

So, a good reality check and a reminder to the JV to eat your Wheaties as in basketball size and skill help. The team must continue to work on mastering the game, getting shots off even when your opponent is bigger than you, and team defense.

Up next the Hawks face the Danbury Lakers in their fourth league match.

Scoring - Woodard 4, Collins 2, Hazimah 2, King 2, Okeke 2.

Editors $0.02 - I should have warned you.  Two of Central's JVs played on Rick and Jared's AAU team.  Every other guy on that AAU team is a starter for their respective High School.

The Hawk JVs should take heart knowing that 65-12ish scores used to come at the hands of Ottawa Hills and Toledo Christian.  Those days are long gone.  Get up off the canvas and resume punching on January 6th.

Happy New Year, and thanks again to Portia Ash who has been a wonderful addition to the blog.
